The Kothbiro soccer tournament was first held in 1973 as advocacy tool to bring the youths together to address social issues, sports and youth leadership. It was officially launched by Vincent "KOTHBIRO" Radido with the help of other youths during that time. Since then the tournament has brought together over a one hundred clubs from different areas of Nairobi from Kibera, Kiambiu and Dagoretti .The tournament was support by various individuals over the time notably Vincent Radido, Bernard Otieno Makaa, Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa.



Since the 70s , the tournament has produced some of the countries former top class players like Sammy Owino, John Bobby Ogolla,William Obwaka, Nairobi branch football chairman Dr. Dan Shikanda. This has also contributed to the growth and maturity of clubs to play in provincial’s league namely Pellico Ngara F.c. and Pumwani united among many others.

KOTHBIRO OBJECTIVES

To give youth’s a sporting chance; increase their opportunities for self development in their football careers, curbing the prevalence of HIV/AIDs, drugs and other substances abused.

Community awareness, mobilization and organizations: Awareness will be created on the integral link between environmental pollution and human health. Themes such as Kenyan biodiversity, waste management, sanitation, HIV/Aids and gender issues will be addressed .youth social and cultural activities and integral to dissemination of information.

It is intended that the communities’ capacity to undertake local advocacy on environmental and waste issues will be increased.

The project will also be campaign platform against abuse of drugs and illicit brews translating to improved community health especially the youth. Nurture and develop talents: Promote sports among the youth to nurture creativity and skills to enhance themselves socially and economically

Tournament Beneficiaries

Mostly the young people and communities living in the Greater Nairobi County. Ages 16-35
