ABOUT US

Addressing feminine hygiene.
Research shows that adolescence and teenage is a time of increased vulnerability and stress for girls. On the onset of menstrual periods, there are increased rates of absenteeism in school due to challenges associated with personal hygiene and confidence crisis. The Female Assistance Project, initially a graduate student's research project; was implemented (November 2010) to address feminine hygiene challenges facing girls who have limited or no resources to proper sanitary care, an issue that is often overlooked or not addressed. This project is sponsored by FAROVA DEVELOPMENTAL INITIATIVE (FDI)..

Goals & Objectives

  1. Providing monthly sanitary supplies for the target population
  2. Educating girls on hygienic practices during menstrual periods
  3. Tackling confidence crisis; with the aim of curbing school absenteeism
  4. Creating a platform for preteen/teen girls to voice their concerns & improve their social skills
  5. Creating pleasant periods; while eliminating on the rag stigma.

In addition to the 'basics', we offer participants opportunities to network with peers including bi-monthly meetings, on-going educational forums, and organized team sports (soccer, and in the near future volleyball). We strive to include enrichment activities that extend our participants knowledge and understanding of the feminine realm of health and hygiene.

We are also committed to parent participation and education. For interested parents, we offer a number of opportunites for them to join us during our educational forums to help them better understand and support your teenage girl's development.

Currently the project is supported by wonderful volunteers who are working tirelessly to ensure that the vision and mission is realized. They identified the target population and coordinated the project launch in Kenya, December 18, 2010. See the launch experience photos.
